Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Marine P&I Claims Executive with a strong background in Maritime Law and experience in handling FD&D claims. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing a variety of Protection & Indemnity (P&I) and legal (FD&D) claims, providing advice and support to members (shipowners, charterers, or operators), and liaising with external parties including correspondents, lawyers, surveyors, and third-party claimants.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Handle a wide range of P&I claims, including cargo damage/loss, crew illness/injury, pollution incidents, collisions, stowaways, and wreck removal.
  • Manage and advise on FD&D matters, including charterparty disputes, demurrage, off-hire claims, freight issues, and performance disputes.
  • Provide legal and commercial advice to members on maritime issues and contract interpretation.
  • Liaise with external lawyers, surveyors, correspondents, and third parties to manage claims efficiently and cost-effectively.
  • Analyze and interpret relevant clauses in charterparties, bills of lading, and other maritime contracts.
  • Negotiate claim settlements and ensure appropriate documentation is obtained and maintained.
  • Maintain accurate records and claim files in internal systems.
  • Prepare reports for senior management and underwriters on claims trends and high-profile cases.
  • Contribute to loss prevention initiatives and member education.
  • Stay updated on maritime legal developments, conventions, and relevant case law.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Law (LLB); specialization or post-graduate qualification in Maritime Law is highly preferred.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in P&I and/or FD&D claims handling (Club, law firm, or shipping company background).
  • In-depth knowledge of maritime conventions, marine insurance, and relevant case law.
  • Familiarity with club rules, particularly International Group (IG) club procedures and structures.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple complex cases.
  • Proficiency in legal research and strong drafting/report writing skills.
